White House on Friday unveiled new images of a commemorative passport that includes a portrait of Donald Trump. The State Department said the limited‑edition passport, created to mark the United States’ 250th anniversary, will be issued at the Washington Passport Agency beginning July 6, 2026, while supplies last. The design features a three‑quarter‑length photograph of Trump leaning over the Resolute Desk, taken by White House photographer Daniel Torok, and incorporates text from the Declaration of Independence along with his signature. The back of the passport displays a gold “Freedom 250” flag and a black signature, differing from earlier versions in which the signature was gold and the number “250” was not present. The State Department noted that a commemorative version will be issued in April, but the final artwork differs from the preview. Democrats have criticized the passport and a related solid‑gold commemorative coin that bears Trump’s image and the phrase “FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT.” Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Ron Wyden of Oregon said the coin’s gold may come from sources linked to illegal mining and that using such material for a national anniversary item is inappropriate. They urged the Treasury to halt production. Governor Gavin Newsom of California previously mocked the proposal with a mock‑up of a gold‑colored driver’s license featuring his own face. Congress has not yet taken action on the passport or coin measures, and the White House has not responded to requests for comment.
