Byron Donalds' campaign said it has raised $90 million in the Republican governor's race, with records through June 26 showing nearly $10 million in contributions to his campaign account and more than $76.2 million to the Friends of Byron Donalds political committee.
The primary is set for August 18, and the race is part of the Republican contest for Florida's governorship.
Donalds has spent a $20 million statewide advertising campaign on television and digital platforms, aimed at the November general election and the August primary. He has added several key endorsements in the past week, including U.S. Senator Ashley Moody, Attorney General James Uthmeier, Agriculture Secretary Wilton Simpson, CFO Blaise Ingoglia, incoming Senate President Jim Boyd and House Speaker‑designate Sam Garrison.
Opponents are lagging in fundraising: Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins reported raising $15,500 in hard money and $100 to his Quiet Professionals FL committee during the week, leaving him with less than $3.5 million on hand as of June 26. Investment manager James Fishback raised less than $2,300 from other sources after receiving $75,000 from Daniel Hassan, bringing his total contributions to $700,000, and spent $110,000 in the week ending June 26, including $30,000 paid to his running mate Sean Lovano. Fishback had $85,000 available at the end of the period.
Former Speaker Paul Renner raised just over $110,000 the same week, receiving a $100,000 donation from the living trust of Ann D. Gibbs of Jacksonville, and had less than $2.3 million remaining.
DeSantis' senior advisors have alleged that his wife, Layla Collins, used burner accounts on the social platform X to criticize the governor's appointed lieutenant governor, a claim that has not been independently verified.
Collins also encountered difficulties during a recent debate, struggling with questions about data centers and his 2018 voting record and needing notes for responses, unlike the other candidates on stage.
The large fundraising gap may influence the final stretch of the campaign leading up to the August primary, though its effect on the November election remains to be seen.
