An analysis by cryptocurrency analytics firm Nansen found that nearly 1 million individuals have collectively lost about $3.8 billion after purchasing President Donald Trump’s $TRUMP memecoin. The New York Times reported that Nansen’s analysis relied on publicly visible blockchain transactions, indicating that 988,905 accounts held $TRUMP at the end of June, representing about two of every three purchasers. The token peaked at $75.35 before falling to $1.69, a decline of roughly 98% by the end of June, with trading at $1.69 on July 5. Trump announced the token three days before his inauguration in January 2025, after previously co‑founding the crypto venture World Liberty Financial with his sons. His financial disclosure showed he earned $636 million from $TRUMP, roughly half of the $1.4 billion he reported earning from the cryptocurrency sector in the prior year. The Securities and Exchange Commission under the Trump administration has said it will not classify memecoins as securities and has dismissed several lawsuits against crypto firms. A White House spokesperson said the president said the United States is the crypto capital of the world. The report highlights the scale of retail losses while the long‑term impact of the administration’s crypto policy remains unclear.
