Valve released the complete project files and assembly documentation for its e Ink faceplate for Steam Machine, enabling users to 3D print a custom accessory.
The Steam Machine console, introduced with a modular front panel, had previously been shown with an e Ink display concept that lacked a confirmed commercial release.
Valve made the design available on its GitHub repository, which includes 3D printable CAD files, a list of required components, and assembly guides in PDF and video format.
The faceplate requires flashing firmware onto an ESP32 microcontroller and connects via Bluetooth to display hardware statistics or custom images.
Valve plans to release an official configuration app on Steam in the future, while companies such as JSaux intend to offer pre made e Ink faceplates.
Users can compile an AppImage using the provided software guides until the official utility arrives.
Valve has not announced a release date for an official configuration app.
