God of War studio Sony Santa Monica confirmed that its upcoming game will be released on physical disc in 2027. The company announced plans to discontinue production of physical game discs, and a partner factory will cease disc manufacturing after January 2028. The game is scheduled for release after January 2028, meaning it will be among the last titles offered with a disc. Sony will allow reprinting of discs for games released before that date, but no physical copies will be produced for releases after the cutoff. Fans have expressed criticism on social media regarding the loss of physical media. Sony said the factory it works with is being converted to produce other products, with financial support from the company to purchase new equipment. The company has not indicated any intention to reverse the policy.
