Three men have died on a Del Monte pineapple farm in Kenya after the company hired British security firm G4S to provide guard services.

The farm covers at least 40 square kilometres in Murang’a county, an area comparable to a small city.

A human rights impact assessment conducted in 2023 identified multiple harms.

In August 2025, Stephen Marubu Kibandi was shot in the chest by a police officer who was working with G4S; witnesses said he raised his hands in surrender.

The postmortem report listed a perforating chest injury from a single gunshot.

In April 2025, Haron Kame Kibandi died from head injuries after he was allegedly struck by stones thrown by G4S guards and fell from a motorbike.

A clinic manager said the victim told medics he had been hit by a stone.

In August 2024, Michael Muiruri was killed after a G4S pickup struck the motorbike he was riding, causing him to be thrown to the road and run over.

The driver has been charged with dangerous driving and dismissed by G4S.

Police have cooperated with G4S to staff a critical infrastructure protection unit at the farm.

Families and politicians have called for an independent investigation, saying that the involvement of police makes prosecution of lethal force difficult.

A Kenyan senator for Murang’a county said repeated incidents suggested systemic security and human rights issues that required scrutiny.

G4S denies wrongdoing and said it shared video with the police watchdog showing police and its officers were attacked by people wielding machetes and stones before the fatal shot.

The company added that its security officers have undergone training in human rights awareness, de‑escalation techniques and minimum use of force.

Del Monte Kenya said it also employs GardaWorld for control‑room support and that it investigates any allegations of misconduct.

The case remains unresolved, with families expressing distrust of police investigations and urging accountability.
