White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt will take a leave of absence at the end of July to undergo military training with the Georgia Army National Guard, a development that occurs as the Senate considers the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act before its August recess.
The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, introduced to establish the first comprehensive U.S. regulatory framework for cryptocurrency markets, has a narrow window to pass the Senate before lawmakers begin their August 8 recess, a timeline viewed as critical by industry observers.
Witt, who has served as executive director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets since August, is scheduled to finish his work on July 24 and begin Judge Advocate General training with the Georgia Army National Guard, a program that will qualify him as a legal officer in the Guard. Cody Carbone, CEO of Digital Chamber, said Witt has been forthcoming about his planned military leave.
In Witt’s absence, Harry Jung, deputy director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, is expected to assume his responsibilities, though sources indicate Witt intends to remain engaged in the legislative process during his training. Witt has been involved in negotiations between crypto industry representatives and banking officials concerning stablecoin yield provisions and ethics clauses in the bill.
The outcome of the CLARITY Act before the Senate recess remains unresolved, and Witt’s temporary departure may influence the legislative timeline.
