Cagire is a step sequencer that runs Forth scripts for each step. When the sequencer reaches a step, the associated script is executed, allowing it to generate sound, trigger samples, apply effects, or perform no action. The software includes a built‑in audio engine named Doux, which provides oscillators, sample playback, filters, reverb, delay and distortion without requiring external tools. Cagire is distributed under the AGPL‑3.0 license and was created by Raphaël Maurice Forment, a solo developer. Support for the project is provided through voluntary donations on Ko‑fi, which cover server costs and development time. Comprehensive documentation is bundled with the application, offering interactive, runnable examples and a printable manual that serves as both tutorial and reference. Scripts are written in Forth, a concatenative language processed word by word, and an additional language called Arf enables custom digital signal processing within curly braces. Cagire also supports live coding, a practice where programmers write and modify code in real time for an audience, often used for music and visual art. The project's source code and issue tracker are hosted on Gitea. Donations remain the primary funding mechanism as the developer continues to release updates.
