Yufeng Gao and contributors released version 0.1 of an Intel Itanium (IA‑64) emulator that can boot Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP 64‑bit. The software runs on a Ryzen 5000 series processor at approximately 486‑level performance, according to a Discord channel. Screenshots posted on Discord display Windows Server 2003 with the Luna theme and Windows XP 64‑bit. The emulator is not open source; the developers indicated that a cleaned version will be available from the GitHub repository https://github.com/TheBrokenPipe/ski. An updated QEMU fork, which the Discord community says is built using large language models, can also run Windows Server 2008. No support exists yet for OpenVMS, HP‑UX, Linux, or BSD. The Itanium architecture was previously used mainly for HP‑UX and OpenVMS, and Windows on Itanium has seen limited deployment. Further development may expand support to additional operating systems.
