Xbox announced it will return to offering permanent exclusive titles for its console.
Xbox announced it will return to offering permanent exclusive titles for its console. The shift follows a 2024 decision to broaden game availability across PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Matt Booty, Xbox Chief Content Officer, said exclusives are needed to give customers a reason to purchase an Xbox. He noted that titles such as Gears of War E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be permanently exclusive. Matthew Ball, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer, clarified that the company has no plan to adopt timed exclusivity. He added that future single‑player games will be exclusive unless multiplatform is justified. Ball said titles already in development, including Fable and Halo Campaign Evolved, cannot be reclassified. He noted that PC remains part of the Xbox ecosystem, with games expected on Steam and other stores. Ball also said the change may initially cause confusion among fans but will become clearer over time. He added that some day‑one titles may be removed from Game Pass to protect launch sales. The move aims to strengthen Xbox’s platform differentiation, though the impact on Game Pass and the broader market remains to be seen.
