BitMEX announced in July that it delisted 65 derivative contracts and spot pairs, citing insufficient trading interest, and said it will cease exchange services on September 23, 2026, at 4:00 am UTC. The exchange began the month by removing 21 derivative contracts on July 1, followed by nine spot pairs two weeks later. A further 35 derivative contracts were added to the delisting queue on July 15, bringing the total to 65. BitMEX said the delistings were driven by low trading activity and that the shutdown follows a strategic review of the business and the broader crypto industry. Roshan Dharia, a restructuring adviser for the firm, told Cointelegraph that the firm sees increasing concentration of liquidity among larger exchanges and higher compliance costs for mid‑sized exchanges. The shutdown will mark the end of BitMEX’s 11‑year operation in crypto derivatives, leaving the platform without services after the September 2026 deadline.
