Capt. Benjamin Foster assumed command of Naval Support Activity Naples on July 23, 2026, following a change‑of‑command ceremony at the base’s Capodichino site, succeeding Capt. John Randazzo, who will next serve at Navy Region Europe, Africa, Central.
Naval Support Activity Naples supports roughly 8,500 personnel and hosts U.S. Naval Forces Europe‑Africa and the 6th Fleet. Foster said the base’s mission remains unchanged and emphasized three priorities: learning, performance, and caring for personnel and their families.
The ceremony at Capodichino was attended by family members, Navy personnel, Italian military and civilian officials, and a representative from the Italian army’s 8th Reggimento Bersaglieri marching band.
Foster, a helicopter pilot with more than 20 years of service, previously commanded Helicopter Anti‑Submarine Squadron 6 and deployed twice aboard the USS Nimitz in support of operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, and also served in Afghanistan and Bahrain. Randazzo, who led NSA Naples since July 2023, oversaw $500,000 in fitness‑center upgrades, the addition of new fire trucks, and $5.5 million in facility improvements.
Foster said the organization will constantly balance the demands of the mission with the needs of its team, and that the people are the true asymmetric advantage.
