DeFi real‑world asset (RWA) total value locked rose to about $3.77 billion by July 22, roughly 95 days after an April 18 exploit that wiped $13 billion from the sector in 48 hours, according to DefiLlama. The recovery puts active DeFi TVL close to its pre‑shock level. DefiLlama data show the sector’s overall tokenized RWA value was about $51.9 billion, with active DeFi TVL representing roughly 7 percent of that amount. Ethereum accounted for $1.98 billion, 53 percent of active TVL; Solana held $464 million; Monad $337 million; Avalanche $261 million; and Plasma $211 million. The April incident involved a compromised verification setup that let attackers forge a cross‑chain message and mint 116,500 unbacked rsETH, valued at $292 million, through KelpDAO’s LayerZero bridge. The tokens were accepted as collateral on Aave, enabling the attacker to borrow $8.45 billion across lending markets within two days. Aave and other protocols coordinated to restore rsETH backing and cover the resulting bad debt, steps that closed the specific vulnerability exposed by the exploit, the parties said. Post‑recovery, active TVL remains concentrated, with private‑credit tokens and a few large deployments dominating usage. While the market has regained its pre‑exploit level, the depth and diversification of collateral remain uneven, analysts noted. Scenarios outlined by DefiLlama suggest that if TVL exceeds $4 billion and spreads across more chains and asset types, composability could strengthen; a base case keeps TVL near $3.8 billion with continued concentration; a bear case could see TVL fall below $2.5 billion if another bridge or collateral failure triggers supply‑cap cuts.
