Microsoft said it is investigating reports that LG monitors automatically install the LG Monitor App Installer, which includes McAfee advertisements, on Windows PCs without user permission.

The LG Monitor App Installer appears in the Microsoft Store description as a tool to install monitor‑specific applications, including McAfee, and Microsoft’s developer documentation states that universal Windows platform apps may install automatically when a device is connected to the internet and signed into the Microsoft Store, provided the user has not disabled recommended settings.

Users reported that the installer adds McAfee advertisements to their desktops without any prompt and requests extensive system permissions such as access to geolocation, device data, online activity, contacts, credentials, and transactions, according to a statement from a user identified as Burke.

Similar automatic installation practices have been documented for other hardware makers, including Razer, Logitech, Asus, and Gigabyte, which have faced criticism for bundling software with their devices.

Gamers Nexus identified several monitor models—including the 34GX900A-B, 45GX950-B.AEU, 32GS95UE-B, 39GX950B, 27GP83B-B, 27GN800, 32GS95UE-B, and 27GN850-B—as receiving the installer, and Microsoft has not disclosed the full scope of affected devices.

Microsoft said it is reviewing the matter and may adjust its automatic installation policies, while the incident underscores broader concerns about undisclosed software being added to personal computers.
