Patreon CEO Jack Conte announced on Thursday that the company is cutting 20% of its workforce, about 93 employees, as part of cost adjustments. In a memo shared online, Conte said Patreon’s core business remains strong but the platform must adapt to market changes and adjust its cost structure to stay stable. He added that AI has fundamentally transformed the tech industry and the pace of change is intense, though the reductions are not intended to replace workers with AI. The statement emphasized that human creativity, judgment and connection remain central to Patreon’s product vision and business strategy. Patreon is also flattening its organizational chart and refocusing teams on its top priorities. Affected employees will receive at least 16 weeks of severance pay, an additional week for each year of service, continued health coverage through the end of the year, and a $1,500 stipend to replace their company laptop. Last week the company announced a partnership with Cloudflare to block AI bots that scrape creator content without permission, citing more sophisticated AI scraping techniques. The layoffs represent Patreon’s largest reduction since 2022, when it cut 17% of staff and closed offices in Berlin and Dublin. The restructuring reflects ongoing challenges in the creator economy as platforms navigate technological shifts and creator‑platform relationships.
