Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with American activist Laura Loomer, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, in Kyiv on Thursday, according to statements from Zelenskyy’s office and Loomer. Loomer conducted an interview with Zelenskyy for her show on the social media platform Rumble and posted a preview of the conversation on her X account, after telling her followers she had been wrong to repeat Russian propaganda. In the interview, Loomer said she believes Russia is assisting Iran in targeting United States soldiers, and she asserted that Republicans who oppose continued support for Ukraine will soon recognize Russia’s hostile actions. She added that she does not care whether Republicans disavow her. Trump shared a preview of the interview on his Truth Social platform, calling it Very good. Loomer has previously described Ukraine as corrupt and said it contains “Nazi apologists,” a characterization she says Russia used to justify its 2022 invasion, and has referred to Zelenskyy as a “Jihadi apologist.” Zelenskyy’s office said the visit was important for Loomer to observe conditions in Ukraine firsthand. Loomer, who describes herself as an Islamophobe and an ardent supporter of Israel and Trump’s immigration policies, has faced scrutiny for past statements about Muslims and for claiming involvement in the detention of British journalist Sami Hamdi. The meeting occurs amid a broader debate in the United States about the direction of policy toward Ukraine, as the current administration pushes for a diplomatic resolution while Trump and some members of his base have expressed skepticism about ongoing aid.
