AMD reported Q2 profit up 163 percent year over year on revenue of $11.5 billion, and forecast data center revenue to more than double by 2027, sending its share down about 8.7 percent after the announcement. The company said growth in the data center segment would accelerate in the second half of the year and beyond 2027 as its Helios rack systems and Instinct MI400 series GPUs reach customers. Helios includes 72 Instinct MI455X GPUs with 432 gigabytes of HBM4 memory per GPU and performance that meets or exceeds Nvidia’s Vera Rubin platform on most metrics. Venice Epyc CPUs will offer up to 256 cores and 512 threads with 16 memory channels capable of 1.6 terabytes per second per socket. While data center and AI sales rose, AMD’s client PC sales increased 23 percent year over year to $3.1 billion, and gaming revenue fell 31 percent to $779 million as console sales cycles ended and semi‑custom processor orders declined. AMD forecast Q3 revenue of $13 billion plus or minus $300 million. Investors expressed concern that much of the growth depends on a few large AI customers, including OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta, which may limit the breadth of AMD’s market reach.
