Egypt’s Ministry of Interior said it had arrested an unemployed man and a student in Cairo and Giza on suspicion of running a fraud ring that impersonated judges. The pair confessed to collecting money from citizens by claiming they could assign government housing and to staging fake court proceedings. Investigators said they used falsified judicial titles, a judicial sash, a firearm and identity documents bearing false titles. The man also admitted filming inside a courthouse to bolster his credibility. Prosecutors said a second suspect acknowledged participation in producing and publishing the videos, and several court employees were detained after alleging they had been instructed by the main suspect to assist the scheme. The suspects were referred for an expedited criminal trial.
