Google announced a new laptop line called Googlebooks, slated for release in the fall. The devices will run a new operating system built from Android and ChromeOS, previously referred to as Aluminium. The OS will integrate Gemini AI and a feature named Magic Pointer that offers contextual suggestions when the user shakes the cursor. Google said it is working with Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo to produce the first models. No specific models, specifications, pricing or processor details have been disclosed. Google confirmed Chromebooks will continue and receive automatic security updates for ten years for devices released in 2021 or later. The company did not indicate how the new line will affect the existing Chromebook market, and further details are expected later this year.
