Technicians installed a commemorative plaque and a memory card on NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope on August 4, 2026. The plaque honors Dr. Nancy Grace Roman, NASA’s first chief astronomer and a key architect of the agency’s modern science program. The memory card carries 1,350,144 names submitted by people worldwide, including astronauts from NASA’s Artemis II and Artemis III missions. The Roman Space Telescope is scheduled to launch on August 30, 2026. It will block starlight to directly image exoplanets and planet‑forming disks. It will enable a statistical census of planetary systems in the Milky Way. It will help answer questions about dark energy, exoplanets and infrared astrophysics. The launch will provide data to address fundamental cosmic phenomena.
