SpaceX reported spending $329 million on Tesla Megapack battery storage systems through August 2026, including $295 million in the second quarter, according to its earnings release on Tuesday. The purchases reflect the integration of SpaceX and Tesla under CEO Elon Musk, whose other ventures include the AI firm xAI, which has also acquired Tesla Megapacks for its data centers. Prior to the merger, xAI purchased $430 million of Megapacks, and in the first quarter of 2026 it bought $34 million worth. SpaceX also disclosed $131 million in Tesla Cybertruck acquisitions as of December 2025. The batteries provide backup power and help manage peak electricity demand in AI data centers, where power usage varies with training and inference workloads, enabling cost savings and operational continuity.
