SpaceX's Cursor, the AI coding tool acquired in an all‑stock $60 billion deal in August 2026, announced a limited‑beta release of Origin, an AI‑native repository for autonomous coding agents.

Origin uses specialized infrastructure to handle large numbers of AI‑generated commits without performance degradation, provides automated merge‑conflict resolution, and can resolve CI test failures through background sub‑agents.

The platform includes stacked pull requests, allowing agents to submit dependent branches sequentially, and records structural metadata for each line of AI‑generated code, specifying the model, prompt and context window used.

GitHub, which reported annual revenue of about $2 billion, remains the dominant code‑hosting service, and Origin’s early rollout is not expected to cause immediate churn among its enterprise customers.

The launch illustrates growing competition among AI‑focused development tools as the industry integrates autonomous coding capabilities.
