Apple has worked on the camera‑equipped AirPods under internal names B798 and B790 for several years. The B798 model was planned for 2026 before being postponed to 2027. A separate B790 version appears more advanced, with references in iOS 27 code and a roadmap targeting an earlier debut.

The demo video surfaced in the macOS 26.7 release candidate, showing Visual Intelligence running on AirPods. Mark Gurman wrote that Apple’s effort to sell the camera‑equipped AirPods remains on track for 2027, despite internal signals that the product could arrive sooner. The B790 version, a modified AirPods Pro 3, includes sensors and AI and appeared in the leaked video. The B798 model was a new generation of AirPods Pro that also incorporated cameras. Apple has said the cameras will be low‑resolution sensors that do not capture photos or video, but rather scan the environment to provide context to Siri and other AI tools. Privacy concerns have been raised by some users, who have labeled the device “pervertpods.”

Apple is expected to announce the product at its iPhone event scheduled for early next month, but the final release date remains 2027. Whether the low‑resolution camera design will address privacy objections is still uncertain.
