Divine, a short‑form video app built on the decentralized Nostr protocol, launched to the public and restored more than two million original Vine clips while prohibiting AI‑generated content.

Much like the original Vine, Divine lets users create and share six‑second videos that loop automatically.

The app is supported by Twitter co‑founder Jack Dorsey, who held a senior role at Twitter when it acquired Vine in 2012.

Divine's founder, former Twitter employee Evan Henshaw‑Plath, said he wanted to give social media a reset and emphasized that the platform would not allow AI‑generated videos.

He added that he was frustrated by uncertainty over whether videos were real and wanted users to enjoy content without doubt.

Users must record videos live within the app and can use a verification tool called ProofMode, which attaches metadata indicating when a file was recorded and whether it has been altered.

The platform also lets users flag suspected AI content, with both automated systems and human moderators reviewing reports.

At launch, more than 10,000 people installed Divine within the first few hours, causing server strain.

Social media analyst Matt Nevarra noted that the features people dislike about modern platforms are also what keep them engaged, making it difficult for Divine to remove addictive elements without losing appeal.

The availability of classic Vine videos created by prominent creators may attract users nostalgic for the format.

Divine aims to turn that nostalgia into a sustainable service for a new generation of social media users.
