Sega released the first trailer for an animated series based on its Golden Axe video game franchise. The series, created by Mike McMahan and Joe Chandler, follows the original heroes and a new character named Hampton Squib as they attempt to defeat Death Adder and protect the land of Yuria. Voice actors Lisa Gilroy, Liam McIntyre and Matthew Rhys provide the main roles. The trailer depicts stylized combat, fantasy settings and references to the game's signature gold axe. McMahan said the show will stay true to the source material while adding meta‑commentary, a point highlighted when the character Tyris Flare mentions facing a series of increasingly difficult enemies before confronting Death Adder. Golden Axe originally launched in 1989 as an arcade beat‑em‑up and has remained inactive since the 2008 release of Golden Axe: Beast Rider. Sega has been adapting its game properties for film and television, including the Sonic the Hedgehog film series, a live‑action Yakuza series that debuted in 2024, and planned adaptations of Streets of Rage, House of the Dead and an OutRun movie directed by Michael Bay. A premiere date for the Golden Axe series has not yet been announced.
