In July, the Federal Communications Commission prohibited the importation of new models of foreign‑made robots, including robot vacuum cleaners and Unitree humanoid and quadruped robots. The ban, cited as a national‑security measure due to potential cybersecurity risks, also aimed to spur domestic robot production.

The U.S. distributor, operating under the Robo Inc. brand, had halted its distribution operations in June while continuing to support existing customers with parts and repairs. The company said it would shift its focus to developing robots and expanding manufacturing capacity at a new facility.

Under the Robo Inc. banner, the team is working on a wheeled humanoid torso for healthcare and concierge services, equipped with cameras and sensors for vital‑sign monitoring. Additional products include a security‑focused quadruped and a humanoid platform intended for educators and researchers. Universities have expressed interest in a U.S.-compliant offering, the company said.

Engineers have used 3D printing to produce prototypes that are being tested by select customers, and the firm expects to begin commercial sales from the new plant by early 2027.

The company is also preparing to raise its first major round of external funding after years of operating as a bootstrapped business. Haggerty noted that customer interest has increased as the fundraising process advances.
