Musical Spirograph is a browser-based tool that combines visual spirograph patterns with generative music. Users watch points move along mathematical paths that produce hypotrochoid and epitrochoid shapes while the points pass through concentric rings that trigger specific notes. The interface lets users select from six virtual rotors, enable up to three simultaneous arms, and adjust parameters such as scale, note sets, synth presets, quantization and tempo. Additional controls allow expansion of the ring count to two octaves. The sound engine has been reported to suffer from clipping and artifacts, and the tool currently offers no direct MIDI export. The creator, Terrence O’Brien, described the experience as soothing and engaging, recalling a childhood fascination with physical spirographs and a love of generative composition.
