Hideo Kojima turned 63 on August 24 and said he remains mindful of his mortality while continuing to work on video games. He began his professional career in 1986 and will mark 40 years of game development in 2026, the same year he celebrates the 10th anniversary of Kojima Productions, the studio he founded after leaving Konami. In a social media post, Kojima said he is aware that he will not live forever and has considered how he wants to die, prompting him to reassess how he spends his time. He emphasized that once a project is started, it cannot simply be abandoned. Kojima added that he wants to remain focused on creating games, despite receiving various offers. He declined an invitation to direct a Death Stranding film, according to reports. Current projects include the espionage title Physint and the horror game OD. Kojima Productions updated a night sky scene in the upcoming Death Stranding 2 to mark his birthday, as shared on Twitter. His staff posted a photo of a birthday cake and a picture of Kojima with Geoff Keighley on social media.
