Google's Gemini Notebook now supports interaction with purchased books through its Expert Intelligence feature.
Google's Gemini Notebook now supports interaction with purchased books through its Expert Intelligence feature. More than 100,000 titles from publishers such as Penguin Random House, Johns Hopkins University Press, Macmillan Publishers, and O’Reilly Media are available for integration. Named authors including Michael Pollan, Kim Scott, Steven Pinker, and Jennifer Wallace have created customized notebooks that combine their work with additional source material. During a briefing, Google Labs editorial director Steven Johnson demonstrated how the feature can generate recipes from Pollan’s Food Rules or provide guidance on difficult workplace conversations based on Radical Candor. Users can view the full text of each book within the Notebook interface. Protection measures prevent users without a purchase from accessing the full text; shared notebooks display only a source reference that redirects to Google Play Books for purchase. Johnson said the tool is intended to let users build a collection of trusted experts and explore new revenue opportunities for authors and publishers. Google plans to extend the capability to Search AI Mode, the Gemini app, and to scholarly articles, magazines, and newspapers. The expansion aims to broaden the range of knowledge sources available to AI‑assisted note‑taking.
