Democratic nominee David Jolly said the fundraising gap with Republican Byron Donalds is not a decisive factor in the Florida gubernatorial race. He noted that Donalds’ financial advantage is large, but his campaign says it does not guarantee victory. As of Aug. 21, Donalds’ Friends of Byron Donalds account held more than $50 million, while Jolly’s Florida 2026 committee had less than $1 million. Campaign accounts showed Donalds with more than $7 million and Jolly with just over $2 million. Since Aug. 21, Jolly’s political committee received a $1 million contribution from Donald Sussman, $500,000 from the American Federation of Teachers COPE Dynamics, and $100,000 from Gladys Cofrin, a serial donor to Democratic causes. Jolly said he has raised another two to three million since Tuesday, with contributions from larger groups and individual donors. He declined some attempted donations and said he does not need to match Donalds dollar for dollar, only enough to fund a statewide television campaign in October. Jolly added that state matching funds for small‑dollar donations could provide meaningful support. The Cook Political Report rates the Governor’s race as Likely Republican, having upgraded Jolly’s chances this week. A poll released by the Democratic Governors Association earlier this month showed a margin of error lead for Jolly, though public polls have consistently indicated a single‑digit lead for Donalds. With about nine weeks remaining until Election Day, Jolly will need a substantial financial boost to mount a statewide television campaign.
