Apple considered a new Apple Pencil for the iPhone Ultra but is unlikely to launch, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.

The device would have been shorter and thicker to match the iPhone Ultra’s size, attaching magnetically to the side for charging and storage like existing iPad Pencils.

Gurman said the design would be awkward to hold while using the phone and could scratch the interior screen.

He added that Apple may have avoided the product to align with Steve Jobs’ view that a stylus was unnecessary for the original iPhone.

Apple has not confirmed any plans for a Pencil, and the accessory may not be released.
