Spotify announced the launch of Running Mode, a feature that lets users create playlists based on desired beats per minute and workout goals. The service rolled out the tool today for iOS users in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden. Running Mode is part of Spotify’s Fitness hub, introduced in April, and requires a Premium subscription. It offers 25 preset running playlists that can be adjusted for genre, duration, BPM and training method such as interval, steady or pyramid. Users may also enable optional English audio prompts that deliver timed cues and motivation without interrupting the music. The new mode differs from the 2015 Running feature, which automatically detected the user’s pace via phone sensors, by requiring the user to set workout parameters in advance. Spotify said the feature is intended to reduce the time spent searching for suitable music during exercise.
