A new official website announced that the manga series The Failure at God School, created by writer Hyuganatsu and illustrator Modomu Akagawara, will receive a television anime adaptation. The site unveiled a promotional visual posted on the series' X/Twitter account, which features artwork by Akagawara. The announcement was made on Friday, though no broadcast details have been disclosed.
The manga, known in Japanese as Kami-sama Gakkō no Ochikobore, follows a high school student named Nagi who seeks a divine figure to restore her family's shrine after her grandmother's death. The story is set in a world where supernatural abilities are regulated by government-sanctioned schools and licenses, with only certified individuals permitted to use the title of god. The narrative explores themes of spiritual responsibility and unintended consequences.
Yen Press has licensed the manga for distribution, and Hakusensha published its 15th compiled volume on Friday. A novel adaptation launched in January 2022, with the fifth volume released in Japan on May 27 by Star Seas Company. The original manga debuted in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine in August 2021.
Hyuganatsu previously began serializing The Apothecary Diaries on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in October 2011, which later inspired a manga and anime series. The current project marks the first anime adaptation of The Failure at God School.
The disclosure regarding Kadokawa World Entertainment's ownership stake in Anime News Network is noted for transparency but does not influence the reporting on the anime announcement.
