Birdfy has introduced a new version of its camera-equipped metal feeder that offers higher-resolution video and expanded artificial intelligence capabilities. The Birdfy Feeder Metal 2 (4K) features a 4K wide-angle camera, an upgrade from the 1080P sensor used in the original model, enabling clearer capture and streaming of bird activity. The device is now available for purchase at $269.99.
The feeder retains the original’s metal construction, designed to resist damage from animals such as squirrels, and includes a 1.8-liter seed reservoir. It also incorporates a built-in solar panel and an IP66 weatherproof rating, allowing operation without external power sources and resilience in outdoor conditions. An external antenna extends Wi-Fi range, enabling placement in larger yards without requiring proximity to a home network.
Video output is limited to 20 frames per second to maintain smooth livestream performance. The product integrates with Birdfy’s AI-powered OrniSense system, which can identify over 6,000 bird species. Instead of directing users to a static knowledge base, the system generates customized summaries of observed birds, including behavioral and species-specific insights.
Subscription requirements apply for full AI functionality. The previous version’s AI service was priced at $4.99 per month or $49 annually. A premium variant of the new feeder is offered at $299.99, which includes lifetime access to AI features. Pricing details for ongoing subscriptions to the new system have not yet been disclosed.
