New data from market intelligence firm Apptopia shows Meta's AI application Muse has recorded more downloads in its first 12 days on the market than ChatGPT recorded in the 12 days following its own mobile debut. The comparison focuses exclusively on the U.S. and Canadian markets.
Apptopia's analysis examined iOS download figures for both applications during their initial launch periods within the United States and Canada. In this narrowed dataset, Muse accumulated 1.8 million downloads versus ChatGPT's 1.3 million downloads over the same timeframe. Globally, Muse has reached approximately 2.8 million total installations within its first two weeks.
User engagement metrics also suggest stronger early adoption for Muse. The firm reports Muse's U.S. daily active users have reached 642,000, surpassing ChatGPT's 231,000 daily active users recorded at the comparable point after its launch. On iOS specifically, Muse maintains 359,000 daily active users compared to ChatGPT's historical figure from the same period.
The comparison required careful calibration due to differing launch strategies. ChatGPT initially launched globally but was limited to iOS devices, while Muse launched simultaneously on both Apple's App Store and Google Play, though restricted to the U.S. and Canadian markets. Apptopia adjusted for this disparity by analyzing only iOS data from the U.S. and Canada for both applications.
Meta's cross-platform integration may be contributing to Muse's growth trajectory. The application connects with Facebook and Instagram, platforms under Meta's umbrella, and is also accessible through WhatsApp. Analytics indicate that over 95% of Muse users also engage with Facebook, with 63% also using Instagram.
Appfigures previously reported Muse achieving 1 million downloads, and the app has risen to the top position on the U.S. App Store, surpassing ChatGPT in that ranking. Muse's ascent occurred despite launching with a more limited geographic footprint than ChatGPT's initial rollout.
These early indicators suggest Muse could emerge as Meta's next major application, though the company has not yet released official adoption statistics. The findings remain estimates derived from third-party analytics rather than Meta's internal metrics.
