Russian strikes killed eight people across Ukraine on Sunday, a day after Moscow announced it would press the war effort, authorities reported. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had launched roughly 3,900 drones, aerial bombs and other missiles at Ukraine over the previous seven days. The intensified campaign included strikes on Kyiv, which Ukraine says are aimed at civilian infrastructure as winter approaches. Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi reported that Russian attacks hit a children's centre in the northern city of Sumy, killing three people, among them a 16‑year‑old girl. In the southern Zaporizhzhia region, night‑time strikes resulted in three deaths, and a drone strike in Kyiv killed one man. The Odesa regional administration said a "massive strike" in the Black Sea area claimed one additional life. Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitchko noted that a woman and two 16‑year‑olds were wounded and hospitalized in the capital, adding that six‑teen sites had been damaged, including twelve houses, a warehouse and a production facility. Regional head Oleg Kiper said the Odesa strikes damaged housing, a shop, a hotel, a medical building and a grain warehouse. Zelensky posted on social media that Russian forces had fired more than 2,200 attack drones, about 1,650 aerial bombs and 38 missiles — including a notable number of ballistic missiles — in the past week. He said the latest attacks hit two kindergartens, two schools and other civilian sites across the country. The president argued that continued assaults contradict Russian claims of preparing for de‑escalation, especially in talks with American negotiators. Moscow's defence ministry said it had bombed a Kyivstar data centre and a facility belonging to Omega Telecom, asserting that the companies were providing services to the Ukrainian army. State media released an image of a drone bearing the message "Digital Detox," suggesting the strikes were intended to disrupt internet access. On Saturday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told the United Nations General Assembly that Russia intended to continue its military campaign "to the end." Russia denies targeting civilians. The ministry also claimed that Russian forces had seized the border village of Khrypuny in the eastern Kharkiv region, an area where Russia already controls pockets of territory. While Russia does not formally claim the entire Kharkiv region, it has repeatedly attacked the area and seized land there. Kremlin statements have long expressed the goal of capturing the rest of eastern Ukraine. U.S.-led diplomatic efforts to end the conflict have not yielded a breakthrough, and the United Nations has highlighted the rising civilian toll as both sides become more entrenched.
