Archaeologists have uncovered a 3,400-year-old fragment of the Treaty of Kadesh, the earliest known peace agreement between two states, during excavations at Hattusha in north-central Turkey. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism confirmed the discovery, noting that the fragment was found alongside previously documented sections of the treaty. The agreement was signed around 1269 B.C. by Egyptian pharaoh Ramesses II and Hittite king Hattusili III. The newly recovered piece adds to existing records of the treaty, which was previously known through other archaeological finds. The discovery was reported by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
