Apple’s upcoming iOS 27 update introduces notable refinements to the Find My service, affecting how users manage location sharing and device tracking across iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.

The most significant addition is granular control over location sharing. Users can now designate specific contacts to hide their location from, without triggering alerts to those individuals. A new "Hide Location" toggle appears on each contact’s card within the Find My interface, allowing temporary pauses or scheduled interruptions to sharing. When paused, recipients see a "No Location Found" status rather than a notification, preserving discretion. Previously, disabling location sharing affected all connections simultaneously; the new system enables per-contact management while maintaining overall privacy controls.

Visually, the app adopts a refreshed Liquid Glass design language consistent with other iOS 27 interfaces. The tab bar aligns with Apple’s current aesthetic, and the main screen now displays precise location details—such as street-level addresses—directly in the feed, eliminating the need to drill into individual profiles. New iconography, including an AirTag-inspired symbol for the "Items" section, further modernizes the experience.

For cellular-enabled Apple Watch users, location sharing will automatically leverage the watch’s cellular connection when the paired iPhone is out of reach. Additionally, the Watch receives a unified Find My interface that consolidates tracking for people, personal items, and paired devices into a single streamlined view, improving usability during active scenarios.

These updates reflect Apple’s ongoing effort to enhance location transparency and user autonomy without introducing new data collection mechanisms. The changes roll out with the broader iOS 27 release later this year, continuing the platform’s focus on practical privacy tools within its ecosystem.
