Microsoft is rolling out Mythic Achievements to Xbox Insiders beginning today, adding a new layer to how players measure gaming milestones. The system marks completion of all original achievements in a title, similar to PlayStation's Platinum Trophy framework, and applies retroactively to games already fully completed. Once earned, these designations remain permanently attached to a player's profile.
A progress bar will appear at the top of each game's achievement list, indicating proximity to Mythic status. Players can also isolate remaining original achievements for focused pursuit, while downloadable content additions receive an "add-on" label to clarify their separate status. Microsoft has not announced a timeline for expanding the feature beyond the current insider program.
The update arrives amid workforce reductions across Microsoft's gaming division. Recent layoffs have affected multiple Xbox departments, with Activision and Bethesda studios absorbing several teams. Ninja Theory's operations face uncertainty, and Undead Labs has initiated staff reductions following acquisition by an undisclosed buyer. Xbox head Asha Sharma had previously referenced the achievement system in August announcements, though the timing coincides with broader restructuring efforts within the company's gaming portfolio.
