Bitcoin's 50-, 100- and 200-day moving averages are converging toward their first fully bullish configuration in more than a year, reinforcing the notion that the cryptocurrency's three-month price recovery remains intact.
The digital asset rose over 40% during the third quarter, climbing to $87,000 before stalling near $85,000 as the U.S. dollar strengthened. Such alignments have historically preceded both extended rallies and brief price spikes, making the ability of bitcoin to stay above its 50-day average the next critical benchmark.
As of the latest data, the 50-day average stands at $79,495, comfortably above the 100-day ($79,493) and 200-day ($79,539) averages. The 100-day line is edging upward and poised to surpass the 200-day, which would create a stacked order of 50-day above 100-day above 200-day — a pattern last observed on June 24, 2025.
Traders rely on moving averages to gauge trend direction; when shorter-term averages sit above longer-term ones, it indicates that recent prices outpace earlier levels, signaling upward momentum. The approaching crossover therefore suggests that bitcoin's recent price recovery is genuine rather than fleeting.
Vikram Subburaj, CEO of India-based Giottus exchange, noted that the crossover would restore the previously observed sequence of averages, but emphasized that the pattern does not guarantee sustained momentum. "The crossover strengthens the trend case, but it does not guarantee its continuation," Subburaj said. "The asset’s price behaviour afterwards will determine whether it becomes a sustained bull-market structure or another short-lived alignment."
Historical precedents illustrate the variability of outcomes. A bullish alignment in late October 2020 preceded a rally that lasted until May 2021, during which bitcoin surged from about $13,600 to a then-record $64,000. A similar setup in early November 2023 held through May 2024, driving prices from roughly $35,000 to $73,000. Conversely, the alignment that formed in June 2025 lasted 97 days but yielded only modest gains, rising from $106,000 to $112,000, while another in June 2024 lasted just 20 days before a 10% decline.
Subburaj cautioned that the pivotal test now is whether bitcoin can maintain its spot price above the 50-day average during any subsequent correction. "The more consequential test is whether Bitcoin can hold the 50-day average during a correction," he added.
The emerging signal arrives amid broader market attention on technical indicators and macroeconomic factors shaping cryptocurrency trajectories.
