Japanese animation studio Felix Film altered its animator recruitment notice on Saturday to address concerns about generative artificial intelligence. The change removes language that had explicitly mentioned AI image generation as a required skill, replacing it with a statement that the company is examining how such technology might support creative work.
The original posting, which had been active since December 2024 and targeted graduates completing their studies the following spring, listed two criteria for applicants. The first required candidates to apply if they sought roles as episode directors, key animation directors, character designers, or concept designers. The second previously specified that applicants must be able to produce illustrations using either Blender or image-generating AI tools.
After the edit, the second requirement now reads that the studio is "studying how AI technology can be used as one of the technologies to support the work of creators in the studio," while still mentioning proficiency with Blender and other 3D computer graphics tools. The studio clarified that it has not committed to adopting AI for image production, but is assessing its possibilities.
In a public statement shared on social media, Felix Film emphasized that any future implementation would aim to augment rather than replace artistic staff. The studio also indicated it would evaluate copyright considerations and technical methods before adopting any AI systems, stating that rights issues and impacts on production would be carefully reviewed.
Felix Film has contributed animation and production support to titles including Aharen-san wa Hakarenai, Eiga Precure All Stars F, I want to eat your pancreas, and MF Ghost, according to its public portfolio.
