Tether has invested in AIsa, a San Francisco-based startup developing infrastructure for AI agents to make payments, as part of a seed extension round that brings the company’s total funding to more than $9 million. The investment was made through Tether Capital, the firm’s investment arm, alongside HIVEN, a venture capital company. AIsa previously raised $6.5 million in July, with Alibaba and Tribe Capital leading that round. The company’s platform enables AI agents to access external data, software tools and APIs while processing payments under predefined spending limits set by enterprises. According to AIsa, over 250,000 AI agents operate on its network and more than 100 million transactions have been processed. The company also reports access to over 5,000 APIs, models and business software through a single interface. Tether confirmed its participation but did not disclose the amount invested or its ownership stake. The funding round also included HIVEN, which had previously backed AIsa. Neither company released details about the valuation or specific terms of the transaction. AIsa’s technology allows businesses to grant AI agents access to paid services while maintaining control over permissions and budgets. For example, an AI research agent could retrieve financial data within a set spending cap, or a procurement agent could purchase software tools without managing multiple vendor accounts. Payments on the platform can use traditional currencies or stablecoins, though Tether did not specify whether all transactions would settle in USDT. Jordan Liu, AIsa’s founder and CEO, described the model as a “Trusted Resource and Transaction Network for Enterprise AI Agents,” emphasizing the need for controlled, auditable transactions. Tether Chief Executive Paolo Ardoino linked the investment to the growing role of AI systems in executing tasks for individuals and businesses, stating that users require oversight over automated spending. The company highlighted usage metrics showing growth from over 50,000 registered agents in July to more than 250,000 operating agents in October, though it did not clarify whether these figures represent distinct users or cumulative registrations. Tether has previously invested in AI-related projects, including robotics firm NEURA Robotics and payment card provider Oobit, which offers USDT-based cards with transaction controls. In addition to its AI investments, Tether announced an offline speech model in October designed to operate on mobile and robotic devices without cloud dependency. AIsa is currently conducting pilot programs with enterprises in financial intelligence, market research and supply-chain management, though specific partners and outcomes have not been disclosed. The company plans to expand its global resource network and strengthen enterprise spending controls in the coming period. No new valuation or funding terms were disclosed in the announcements.
