Vermont Republican Governor Phil Scott and Democratic challenger Amanda Janoo are scheduled to meet in a gubernatorial debate on Wednesday evening. The contest will begin at 7 p.m. Eastern Time and will be streamed live by Vermont Public, which will host the event and provide a video player for viewers. Mikaela Lefrak, host of Vermont Edition, will moderate the discussion.
Janoo, an economist who won the Democratic nomination after defeating Aly Richards in the August primary, is seeking to unseat Scott, who first assumed office in 2017. Should Scott win re-election in November and serve his full two-year term, he would surpass previous records to become Vermont’s longest-serving governor since the state’s admission in 1791.
The Cook Political Report with Amy Walter recently updated its assessment of the race, shifting its rating from "Solid Republican" to "Likely Republican."
