Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) shares rose 3.9% to $85.52 after announcing a new Digital Credit Capital Framework that permits the company to use Bitcoin sales, up to $2 billion in buybacks, and dividend funding to meet preferred stock obligations. The firm, led by Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, said its US dollar reserve of $2.55 billion as of June 28 could cover preferred dividends and interest for about 17.4 months. A board‑approved policy will require the company to maintain a minimum reserve equal to at least 12 months of those payments. Strategy holds 847,363 Bitcoin valued at roughly $50.7 billion, representing its largest corporate Bitcoin holding and an unrealized loss of more than $13 billion. The company also authorized a $1 billion program to repurchase Digital Credit Securities such as STRC, STRF, STRD and STRK, and a separate $1 billion common‑stock repurchase authorization. Additionally, the dividend rate on Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock (STRC) was raised to 12% from 11.5%, effective for periods with record dates on or after July 1. Analyst Quinn Thompson of Lekker Capital described the moves as a positive step for institutional confidence, while noting that a 50‑basis‑point dividend increase alone may not be enough to restore STRC’s price near its $100 par value. The framework formalizes a shift that began with a recent sale of 32 Bitcoin for about $2.5 million, the first significant Bitcoin sale in the company’s history, and provides flexibility to manage liquidity without relying solely on equity issuance.
