Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson announced that a third Moana film is in development at Disney. He made the remarks during a press conference promoting the upcoming live‑action Moana movie. Variety reported that Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller, who wrote Moana 2 and the live‑action remake, will write Moana 3. Johnson said the animated sequel will likely take several years to complete. The live‑action Moana is scheduled to open in theaters next weekend. Some critics have questioned the decision to remake a recent animated classic, noting that live‑action versions of other Disney titles have been released. Disney is also developing a live‑action Lilo & Stitch sequel slated for a 2028 release. Moana 2 earned more than $1 billion worldwide but received mixed reviews; IGN rated it 6/10, saying it did not significantly expand the world established in the original.
