Google will show a “created or edited with AI” label for ads on Search, Discover and YouTube through its My Ad Center feature. The update, announced on Thursday, places the label under the “how this ad was made” tab. Users can view the label by tapping the three dots or the info button on an ad, which opens the same panel used for blocking or reporting the ad. Google said the label will be applied automatically to ads created with its own generative AI advertising tools. For ads made with other AI tools, the label must be added manually. In some regions the label may appear directly on the ad, either automatically or when the advertiser discloses the AI involvement. Meta already provides a similar “AI info” label in the “About this ad” panel on its platforms. Google previously required disclosure for synthetic or digitally altered content in political ads in 2024 and expanded access to SynthID and C2PA content labels for deepfake detection. The new label is intended to increase transparency about AI use in advertising.
