Jordan’s air defense forces reported on Thursday that they intercepted and shot down eight missiles launched from Iran toward Jordanian territory. The interceptions resulted in debris falling to the ground but caused no casualties or damage to property, according to the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) General Command.
The fighting entered a third day after Iran attacked three ships in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, according to reports, prompting the United States to respond with strikes on approximately 90 Iranian military targets, including air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities and logistics infrastructure along the Iranian coastline, U.S. Central Command said in a statement on July 8, 2026.
Iranian state media and the Tasnim news outlet claimed that multiple explosions occurred at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan and that Iranian forces also targeted American ships near Bahrain with cruise missiles, though no visual evidence of those incidents has emerged, the report noted.
U.S. Central Command declined to provide additional operational details, and a U.S. official told the Jerusalem Post that the explosions reported in Iran’s southern provinces of Bushehr and Choghadak were not the result of U.S. airstrikes, the official said.
Iranian officials asserted that a projectile hit the perimeter of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, a claim that the Jerusalem Post said was based on statements from the deputy governor of Bushehr Province, who said the site had been struck previously during the conflict that began after the April 8 ceasefire, the report added.
In addition, Iranian media reported attacks on a railway bridge in the Golestan province that links Tehran with Mashhad, a line used for trade with China and Russia, and said the attack disrupted rail service, though eyewitness video showed damage to the bridge without confirming the cause, Al Arabiya and Open Source Intel reported.
The U.S. and Iran have each declared the April 8 ceasefire, established under a 14‑point memorandum of understanding signed on June 17, to be over, raising questions about the future of diplomatic negotiations, President Donald Trump said on July 9 while aboard Air Force One that Iran “wants to make a deal so badly” but expressed uncertainty about its willingness to honor any agreement, the president added that Iran “is cuckoo” and that the United States would “hit them hard again tonight,” according to his remarks.
Diplomatic efforts to resolve the dispute remain uncertain as both sides continue to exchange statements and conduct military operations.
