VESA announced the DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification tier for OLED displays.
VESA announced the DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification tier for OLED displays. The tier requires a peak luminance of at least 1400 cd/m² and a black level of 0.0005 cd/m². Displays must also achieve a minimum full‑screen luminance of 700 cd/m². The specification relies on tandem OLED architectures that enable higher sustained brightness without degrading black levels. VESA’s testing framework, originally defined in DisplayHDR CTS 1.2, adds stricter validation for colour accuracy, contrast and black‑level performance. Lenovo will present the first certified displays at Bilibili World 2026 in Shanghai from July 10‑12. Samsung plans to demonstrate OLED and QD‑OLED panels that meet the tier at various trade shows during the second half of the year. KitGuru noted that meeting the criteria may be challenging for many upcoming OLED models.
