Bluesky’s Toni Schneider has become permanent chief executive, ending his four‑month interim tenure.
He succeeded Jay Graber, who stepped down in March to become chief innovation officer.
Graber had overseen growth that brought Bluesky to 43 million users and expanded the AT Protocol, a system that lets Bluesky and other apps share a social network.
Bluesky, spun off from Twitter in 2021, has faced a decline in user engagement and community size in recent months. The company saw a notable increase in users after Donald Trump’s re‑election, but activity has since dropped.
In a personal blog post, Schneider said his first priority is to “create smaller spaces and more private communities” to “unlock the next wave of growth and innovation.” He added that he is “loving the mission and the job” and that the company is “at the very beginning of this story.”
True Ventures, where Schneider is a partner, and Automattic, the parent company of WordPress and Tumblr, are investors in Bluesky.
