The Instagram account of The Saturday Salon, a lecture series based in Newport Beach, California, posted a photo of a document that appeared to be a cease‑and‑desist letter from surveillance technology firm Flock Safety, sparking renewed criticism of the company. Flock Safety has faced public backlash over its technology and partnerships with law enforcement. The Saturday Salon’s Instagram post, which received more than 3,000 likes, included the caption “WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED.” A separate Bluesky post about the letter garnered over 360 reposts. Flock Safety’s chief strategy officer, Rahul Sidhu, said the company did not send the letter and described it as part of a “mass disinformation campaign” involving a forged signature. Chief legal officer Dan Haley added that Flock is aware of at least two forged letters circulating online and that neither he nor any employee authored the document. The posted letter listed Haley’s title as “Head of Legal Affairs Division,” contrary to his actual title of chief legal officer. An email address shown on the letter bounced when contacted. The Saturday Salon’s founder, Schuyler Lifschultz, said the group would welcome a Flock representative to speak at a future event and emphasized its political neutrality. A second forged letter was shared by musician Noah Orion on Instagram. The document accused Orion of “unauthorized dissemination” of visual materials and warned that failure to comply could lead to “persecution” by Flock Group, a phrase that misuses the word “persecute” instead of “prosecute.” Orion did not respond to a request for comment. Flock Safety stated it encourages public debate about its technology and would be willing to participate in discussions hosted by The Saturday Salon. The company maintains that it has not sought to suppress or prohibit such conversations.
